 Job Description

The Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences and Engineering seeks an individual with superior interpersonal, communication and organizational skills to fill its available position of Volunteer Program Coordinator.

The Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences and Engineering is critical to the successful operation of the arts, sciences and engineering programs at Tufts University as it currently raises $8+ million dollars annually, with nearly 80% going toward unrestricted budget-relieving purposes. Gifts made through the annual giving program support financial aid, faculty salaries, curriculum development and student activities. In addition, the Tufts Fund staff plays the most significant role in strengthening alumni participation in Tufts' fundraising efforts, one of the statistics used by U.S. News & World Report when determining college rankings. The Tufts Fund is a critical entry point for young alumni participation, setting the stage for long term philanthropy at Tufts, and it is a resource for identifying future major gift prospects for Capital Fund projects. The Tufts Fund volunteer structure that is now under development will have a significant impact on the success of the Tufts Fund during the university's $1+ billion comprehensive campaign.

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Volunteer Program Coordinator will contribute to all operations of the Tufts Fund Gift Officer Program. This program recruits, trains, and supports alumni who contact former classmates to ask for financial contributions to the Tufts Fund. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will direct all fundraising activities of the young alumni (those who have graduated in the previous ten years) segment of Tufts Fund Gift Officers. She/he will work closely with the Associate Director to revise the structure and operations of the program in order to enhance its visibility, recruit additional young alumni Gift Officers, and provide real-time, personal and web based support for existing Gift Officers. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will be responsible for providing in-person training (that may be off-site and/or require national travel) to his/her Gift Officers, including setting fundraising goals, solicitation techniques, and Tufts Advancement policies and practices. He/she will also solicit gifts from his/her Gift Officers to ensure 100% participation.

The Volunteer Program Coordinator will participate in select reunion committee meetings, track reunion giving throughout the year, and be responsible for partnering with Major Gift Officers and Principal & Leadership Gift Officers to ensure that all top prospects within assigned reunion years are solicited for annual gifts. She/he will work closely with the Associate Director and the office of Alumni Relations to plan and oversee the fundraising components of Alumni/Reunion Weekend each May. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will also be responsible for data maintenance to ensure that program achievement and updates can be reported in an accurate and efficient manner. He/she will assist in providing reports and analyses of various program metrics as needed to share with the Director and Senior Management of University Advancement. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will play a central role in the design and implementation of an online volunteer support site for gift officers when it is built by an outside vendor, and will be responsible for updating and maintaining the current Tufts Fund Gift Officer web page and the Reunion Class web pages. She/he will work by phone, email and in person with Gift Officers, and will also be expected to provide primary administrative support for the program such as assembly and distribution of materials both printed and electronic - and drafting correspondence.
